Breakdown

• 00:00:00 - Falling debris and dust. This setup used instances of pre-simmed trickles precisely art-directed to fill a vast chasm.
• 00:00:09 - Boat destruction and dust.
• 00:00:10 - Smoke tendrils. (There are a lot of very similar shots.)
• 00:00:38 - Doomsday vortex. I used a combination of procedural and simulated volume geometry to create, light and render a rapidly spinning, evolving vortex of mammatus clouds. I also made the rings inside it, which linked to the time travel tunnel system used on other shots in the movie.
